Sierra Nevada College Victorious at Alpine USCSA Nationals

Sierra Nevada College (SNC) emerged victorious at the 2019 USCSA National Championships last week at Snow King, Wyoming. The Eagles won both the men’s and women’s team competitions as well as the combined team title.

The SNC women went 1-2 in the opening day of alpine competition in the women’s giant slalom last Tuesday with Misel Marovt taking the win with a two-run time of 1:56.69 seconds. Her teammate, Saana Ahonen finished in second place, 0.63 seconds back. Rocky Mountain College’s Emeline Lafarge rounded out the podium in third place, 2.41 seconds off the pace.

In the following day’s men’s GS, it was Rocky Mountain that took the top two spots with Andraz Reich Pogladic taking the win in 1:52.38 seconds. Pogladic was followed in second by Esten Riise Falksete, 0.29 seconds back. SNC’s Adrian Rhomberg landed in third place, 0.49 seconds shy of the win.

In the women’s slalom, Marovt took her second title of the Championships, finishing on top of the podium with a total time of 1:40.49 seconds. Ahonen finished in second place once again, 1.37 seconds back. SNC’s Eva Jazbec made it a clean sweep of the podium for the Eagles, finishing in third place, 2.48 seconds back.

The men’s slalom saw SNC’s Rhomberg take the win in 1:36.17 seconds, finishing 0.66 seconds ahead of Rocky Mountain’s Falkeste in second place. Third place went to Castleton University’s Paul Rechberger, 1.11 seconds off the pace.
