Italian speed star Christof Innerhofer suffered a left ACL tear after a fall in the Italian National Championship Super-G last week. The 34-year old was transported to Innsbruck, Austria, and operated on by Dr. Christian Fink.

According to the Italian Ski Federation (FISI), the operation was a success and his ligament was repaired with a piece of quadricep tendon and the internal and external meniscuses were also repaired.

The six-time World Cup winner was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, March 27, and is now at home resting in Italy.

“My mood is good because I always look forward and never backwards,” Innerhofer said to FISI. “I think that even in the most negative situations there is always some positive teaching and I am more determined than ever. I am ready to face the recovery and physiotherapy phase. I want to deny all those who spoke of my retirement. I will ski until 2026.”

Innerhofer will be on crutches for the next three weeks.

FISI contributed information to this story.
