BREAKING: Pinturault Crowned Men’s Alpine Combined World Champion

France’s Alexis Pinturault won the men’s World Championship alpine combined in Are, Sweden, on Monday, finishing with a two-run time of 1:47.71 seconds.

High winds delayed the start of the downhill by an hour and forced organizers to lower the start to the reserve location, further shortening the downhill run. Pinturault sat in 24th after the downhill portion, 1.52 seconds off of leader, Italy’s Dominik Paris, and set the second-fastest time in the slalom run to jump into gold-medal position. Silver went to Slovenia’s Stefan Hadalin, who sat 30th after the downhill and won the slalom run to finish 0.24 second off the pace. Austria’s Marco Schwarz won bronze, 0.46 seconds back.

Bryce Bennett led the American finishers in 11th place. Ryan Cochran-Siegle finished in 18th after sitting in second after the downhill run. Ted Ligety sat in 42nd after his downhill run but elected to not start the slalom run.
