Eurosport teamed up with legendary U.S. alpine racer Bode Miller to give winter sports fans a never-seen-before Virtual Reality (VR) and 360 degree perspective from one of the world’s most thrilling downhill courses.

Miller, an Olympic Winter Games and World Championship gold medal winner and a two-time World Cup champion, takes viewers on an all-consuming journey down the famous Birds of Prey course at Beaver Creek in Colorado.

With two rigs attached to Miller’s equipment and each carrying two cameras and a 220° fish eye lens, Eurosport and Discovery’s VR teams created the final footage to give the ultimate in dynamic, engaging content.

After watching the video in VR Bode Miller confirmed, “This is by far the best way to experience ski racing I have ever seen.”

“Eurosport’s goal is to fuel the passion of our viewers, and this innovative project takes them closer to the action than ever before on one of skiing’s most famous slopes,” said Arnaud Simon, Eurosport’s senior vice president content and production. “In creating Eurosport’s first 360 degree VR project with Discovery and a true great, Bode Miller, we are aiming to tell a unique story and provide unrivaled insight into the emotions that pulse through such an exhilarating journey.”

Along with Eurosport and Discovery, the United States Ski and Snowboarding Association, the International Ski Federation (FIS) and the Vail Valley Foundation also teamed up for this project. In its first 48 hours, the 360° video hosted on Facebook recorded more than 350,000 views and was shared over 7,000 times.
