PARK CITY, Utah – The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) named noted sport scientist Troy Taylor to its team as high performance director. Taylor, who previously worked with the USSA leading up to the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy, will lead the world-class sport science team which supports the athletes of the U.S Ski Team, U.S. Snowboarding and U.S. Freeskiing as they train to become Best in the World.

Taylor comes to the USSA from the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO) where he was director of sport science and sport medicine. He played a significant role in many initiatives at CSIO, including launching the sports medicine department and helping to develop and launch the Ontario High Performance Sport Initiative.

“Our high performance program guides the preparation of our elite teams through evidence-based, leading edge principles, and enhances our performance by finding the small gains that add up to substantial differences,” said USSA Executive Vice President, Athletics Luke Bodensteiner. “Troy’s experience in leading high performance programs across a broad set of Olympic sports up and down the athletic pipeline, combined with his familiarity and passion for winter sports is a major asset in moving our program forward.”

Taylor rejoins USSA on the heels of previous high performance director Troy Flanagan’s departure in May for a job with the Milwaukee Bucks of the NBA. During his earlier tenure with the USSA, Taylor acted as the primary physiologist for the women’s alpine and cross country teams on the World Cup and during the 2006 Olympic season. He also worked with USSA’s Sport Education department to produce sport science related educational materials.

“A strong high performance program is fundamental to establishing successful athletic programs and supporting elite athletes,” said Taylor. “Returning to the USSA after nearly 10 years, it is clear to see the great work that has been done. I look forward to working closely with the USSA staff, coaches and athletes to drive performance to an even higher level in the coming years. I feel very privileged to be given the opportunity to lead the high performance team at USSA.”

Taylor will assist with transition at CSIO before transferring to the USSA’s Center of Excellence in late August to begin preparation for the coming season.
