What do World Cup athletes do when they have a break between races? Sometimes they head home to enjoy some down time. American skiers like Resi Stiegler, Megan McJames, Michael Ankeny and Mark Engel all came to Quebec, Canada to compete against the best skiers in North America in the latest NorAm giant slalom races.

The women raced at Mont Garceau on Thursday and Friday. In Thursday’s giant slalom, independent American skier Megan McJames took the top spot with a time of 1:52.39 while Stiegler took second in her first FIS giant slalom race since December 2014 – just a mere three hundredths of a second off of the leader. Coming in third was University of Denver athlete, Tuva Norbye.

Moving into Friday, the men were able to get a giant slalom race off at Mont Saint Anne after Thursday’s race was postponed due to weather. The U.S. Ski Team’s Brennan Rubie landed the top spot for the day, coming down with a combined time of 2:16. 64. Marco Odermatt of Switzerland surprised the field, moving from bib 47 to second place – just .55 seconds off the lead time. Canada’s Morgan Megarry skied just over a second slower than the winner, landing in third place.

Over at Mont Garceau, the U.S. Ski Team’s Paula Moltzan won the second run by more than half a second to take the win for the day over her teammate, Stiegler. Candace Crawford of Canada finished in third place.

The NorAm races continue for the men and women with slalom on February 6 and 7. The men continue at Mont Saint Anne and the women race at Tremblant.
