Sugar Bowl Ski Team & Academy (SBSTA) has announced the hiring of Chuck Harris as the new director of alpine programs. The director of alpine programs is responsible for the alpine team and academy-level programs (Mini Mite to U19) and advancing a true, long-term athlete development program. Harris is uniquely qualified to help advance our highest performing U16 and FIS athletes, while also developing a comprehensive curriculum for all athletes, coaches, and parents for the full spectrum of the program.

Through the recruiting process, SBSTA cast a wide net and eventually narrowed the field to three finalists. Brian Krill, incoming executive director and head of school said, “In the end, this was a very difficult decision with three very unique and qualified candidates — just as it should be.”

Harris has extensive coaching experience beginning with coaching at Burke Mountain Academy as a men’s FIS coach. Most recently, he was head FIS prep coach at Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation (SVSEF). Chuck has already established deep roots throughout the Western Region and works closely with regional and national working groups to advance the sport. Harris also has the advantage of established working relationships with several current SBSTA coaches. Considering the combination of his open and willing personality, his eye for innovation, his alpine expertise, his adamant support of the academic-athletic balance, and his knowledge of the region and our staff, SBSTA is confident he will be a leader who is ready to hit the ground running and make an immediate impact on the current status and future of the program.

“I am excited about the opportunity to take this role at Sugar Bowl Ski Team & Academy,” said Harris. “The caliber of coaches and the infrastructure in place makes this an amazing time to make this move. I look forward to continuing to build on the relationship between SBSTA and the Western Region and build the best programs possible for all SBSTA student-athletes. I can’t wait to get started.”

The Sugar Bowl Ski Team and Academy (SBSTA) is a nationally recognized alpine, freeride, and Nordic ski team and ski academy that has produced multiple U.S. Ski Team members, NCAA collegiate competitors, national champions in virtually all age groups, and numerous nationally ranked athletes. Sugar Bowl Academy inspires and empowers passionate, highly motivated students, setting the stage for competitive skiers to seek and celebrate challenge with grit, grace, and courage. Sugar Bowl Ski Team and Academy student-athletes thrive on the dual pursuit of rigorous academics and competitive skiing in an environment that celebrates hard work and the pursuit of worthy goals.
