WVBBTS Welcomes New Executive Director

The Board of Trustees for WVBBTS SEF, Inc., home of Waterville Valley Academy (WVA), is pleased to announce they have unanimously selected Victoria (Tory) Amorello to become the next executive director and head of school. Amorello is currently the director of enrollment, financial aid, and external programs at Burke Mountain Academy. The appointment is effective as of July 1, 2018.

“The Board and staff are so excited to have Tory join WVBBTS,” said Andrew Borggaard, chairman of the board of WVBBTS in his announcement to the community. “A rising star in the snowsports academy world, Tory has established a reputation for excellence, very successfully leading enrollment efforts and student life at Burke. Tory shows a deep understanding of the complexities of an organization like WVBBTS, borne from her experience as an administrator, coach, educator and mentor for student-athletes. Tory is incredibly well positioned to lead WVBBTS forward.”

In a statement to the WVBBTS community, Amorello expressed her admiration for WVBBTS and her eagerness to begin her new role.

“I am very honored to be chosen to lead WVBBTS, which has a storied history as one of the oldest snowsports clubs in the country. WVBBTS’ weekend and academy student-athletes have been very successful both on and off the snow and I consider it a privilege to join the organization at such an exciting time. There is tremendous momentum at the Waterville Valley resort, as well as with the club and academy. My husband, Sam, my daughter, Cecelia, and I cannot wait to join this tight-knit community.”

Amorello is a New England native and is thrilled to be able to take this very significant next step in her career so close to home. She grew up in Massachusetts and attended the White Mountain School in Bethlehem, N.H. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Environmental Sciences at Whitman College in Washington state and then went on to complete her Masters in Library and Information Science at Simmons College in Boston, Mass. A three-year Division I alpine skier and team captain at Whitman, Amorello remains an avid skier, mountain biker, and hiker. She is also a USSA-certified alpine coach.

From a young age, Amorello been deeply involved with the national ski community. She grew up skiing for the Franconia Ski Club, then spent years in the Western U.S., where she began coaching and teaching in 2006 at the Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Carbondale, Colo. She has been with Burke Mountain Academy since 2009, where she has overseen many operational areas, most notably recruitment, enrollment, and student life. During her career, Amorello has forged strong ties with student-athletes, families, colleagues, and contemporaries not just at Burke, but throughout the snowsports academy world. In addition to her administrative work, Amorello has served as an alpine coach for U14 and U16 athletes at BMA.

In his announcement, Borggaard also thanked Gary Benedix for serving as Interim Executive Director during the search process.

“We are so fortunate to have had Gary at WVBBTS for such a long time. He has served us in so many roles over the years. Along with the rest of the senior management team, Gary has provided valuable transition leadership for us this year. I look forward to Gary continuing to play a critical role going forward.”
