Austrian Nicole Schmidhofer collected her second medal of the World Junior Championships in two races by winning the GS gold Thursday to accompany her bronze from downhill the previous day. Still, she takes a back seat to Liechtenstein's Tina Weirather. The young downhill winner took silver in the GS. Another Austrian, Eva-Marie Brem, earned the GS bronze.
    The North Americans had a tough day, with Canadian Larisa Yurkiw the top finisher in 28th. American Kiley Staples was 32nd, Leanne Smith 35th, Hannah Victory 54th, Grant Sterling 57th and Megan McJames a DNF.
    The men, scheduled for super G, were rained out in Zauchensee.

    The men, scheduled for super G, were rained out in Zauchensee.
    “We had snow and rain,” U.S. Competition Director Walt Evans said, “but it was the visibility that stopped the guys. The snow was doable but the visibility never was doable … and we couldn’t send them in those conditions.”
    Evans said defending NorAm giant slalom champion McJames was in striking distance after the first run, posting the sixth-best time. However, she got caught in the soupy conditions and failed to finish her second run.
