Veith prepares for return to racing

Alpine skiing superstar Anna Veith made her return to snow earlier this month, but her return to World Cup racing is still undetermined. Fans may recall that last season, the Austrian returned from her 2015 knee injury for a few races, even earning a third-place result in the Cortina d’Ampezzo super-G. Ultimately, she had to stop her season short in order to deal with chronic inflammation in her knee. Now, she is preparing for another comeback.

In a recent press conference, Veith discussed that she’s glad she underwent the second surgery to deal with the pain, and the soonest she will be in the start gate would be Lake Louise, Canada, in December.

“I’m very glad I did this surgery,” she said. “In strength training and on snow, I am now for the first time pain-free again.”

Veith’s newly pain-free knee will dictate when she returns to the World Cup circuit, and not the competition calendar.

“I will continue my path of small steps and feel no pressure here – because I do not have to prove anything to anyone,” the 2014 Super-G Olympic Champion said.

She continued to say, however, that the Games are a huge motivation because after her gold medal in Sochi, she knows “how it feels when the big dream comes true.”
