USST’s Bode Miller signs multi-year sponsorship deal with Barilla{mosimage}U.S. Ski Team star Bode Miller, who finished the 2002-03 World Cup season ranked second in the world and won two world championship gold medals, has signed a multi-year deal with Barilla, the Italian pasta producer.

As part of the deal, Barilla becomes his headgear and primary sponsor, starting with the 2003-04 World Cup season. Barilla’s logo will be featured on Bode’s helmet or other headgear at 2003-04 and 2004-05 World Cup events and the 2005 FIS Alpine World Championships, as well as at the Chevy Truck U.S. Alpine Championships and other sanctioned ski competitions. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Paulo Barilla, Barilla’s vice president, said, “We appreciate Bode’s lifestyle. His self-determination in sport combined with his preference for healthy nutritional food perfectly matches with Barilla’s philosophy. We are really pleased to announce this sponsorship and to contribute to the success of Bode’s next challenges through our products.”

Miller has also signed recent multi-year partnerships with Charles Schwab, Bretton Woods Mountain Resort in New Hampshire and Spyder Active Sports. Both Schwab and Spyder are also sponsors of the U.S. Ski Team. Miller is also supported by Chevy Truck, another U.S. Ski Team sponsor that will support Miller for the second consecutive year, Ski New Hampshire, a marketing association of New Hampshire winter resorts, and equipment sponsors Rossignol (skis and bindings), Briko (helmet and goggles/glasses), Swix (poles) and Nordica (boots).

Miller is working on an autobiography, “Be Nice, Go Fast, Have Fun,” to be published by Villard, a division of Random House. The book will detail Miller’s childhood in New Hampshire, his rise in the world of skiing, and his philosophies of both sport and of life. Tentatively scheduled for publication in spring 2005, it will be co-written with award-winning New Hampshire journalist Jack McEnany.

In the June 2003 issue of Men’s Journal magazine, Miller was voted the second best athlete in the world, trailing the NFL’s Michael Vick by only 1/100th of a point and beating out an elite group of athletes including Alex Rodriguez, Kevin Garnett, Lance Armstrong and Tiger Woods.
