SUGARLOAF, Maine — Tim Jitloff moved into position to claim his first U.S. title Tuesday at Sugarloaf, seizing the lead after the first run of the men’s giant slalom.
Skiing first out of the gate, Jitloff clocked a time of 1 minute, 3.88 seconds over what he said was a course with grippy and forgiveable snow. He was the only racer to clock a time under 1:04 in the first run
“The snow and piste is in excellent condition, you feel like a hero, you can do anything you want,” Jitloff said. “I hope it holds up for the second run.”
Sitting in second place is J1 racer Tommy Ford, just 0.18 seconds back of Jitloff. U.S. Ski Team veteran Jake Zamansky is third at 1:04.29.
Ford is one of five junior racers in the top 10 after the first run, with Max Hammer seventh, Travis Ganong eighth, Will Gregorak ninth and Andrew Phillips 10th.
