Two more Austrians injured in Southern Hemisphere

Following the injuries of Austrian athletes Rosina Schneeberger and Daniel Meier last week, another pair of athletes Julia Gruenwald and Bernadette Lorenz have suffered serious injuries during training in New Zealand.

19-year-old Lorenz crashed in the giant slalom training and obtained a luxation fracture on the right ankle as well as a partial dislocation of her elbow with ligament and tendon tears. After her return to Innsbruck, she was examined and operated on by team doctor Christian Fink on Wednesday evening. The B-team athlete will be off snow for about 10 weeks.

Luckily for World Cup skier Julia Gruenwald, her injury was less severe than initially expected. The 25-year-old A-team athlete has to take approximately six weeks off due to a cartilage fracture on her right knee, but does not need surgery. Gruenwald is the 2017 Austrian National Slalom Champion and her best World Cup result last season was a 14th place in the slalom at Squaw Valley, Calif.
