TORINO: Freestyle: Women’s aerials qualifying postponed until Tuesday{mosimage}SAUZE D’OULX, Italy – Heavy snow forced the postponement of qualifying for Olympic women’s aerials Sunday and authorities rescheduled the competition for Tuesday night.

There was little wind in the Italian Alps, but the heavy snow made speed approaching the jump ramps unpredictable and unsafe for the 24 aerialists.

”The girls doing triples couldn’t get enough speed to do triples and the girls doing doubles, it was dangerous for them, too,” competitor Emily Cook of the United States said of the early warmup jumps, which took place when the storm was just starting.

The men are scheduled to qualify Monday.

American Jana Lindey added, “It’s a bummer, but I can wait for a few more days. Emily and I shared her iPod music for a while, I read a book for a little while then tried to get back up and get ready to jump. I’m not worried or stressed out about it.

“There’s nothing you can do about the weather, so there’s no reason to get all concerned. I’m ready to jump whenever they say to jump. I was basically treating this like any other competition I go to, just staying calm.”
