Theaux leads all down Bormio's Stelvio

Adrien Theaux proved fastest down Bormio’s Stelvio track today (Dec. 27) as the post-Christmas World Cup got underway with training ahead of Saturday’s downhill in Italy.

Two Italians finished close behind with Christof Innerhofer and Dominik Paris finishing in the second and third slots respectively.

Travis Ganong was the top American skier in 18tgh place while Canadian Erik Guay posted the 20th fastest time. Steven Nyman was 21st, Ben Thomsen 28th.

“It is a hard and difficult road,” said tour leader Aksel Lund Svindal, “especially on the lower part as you get tired and have to stay focused. I feel fit and still have energy saved for the race.

Svindal finished sixth, just ahead of last season’s downhill winner Klaus Kroell, who said. “Last year I made a stupid mistake. This year I was to win on the Stelvio.”

The organizer has a great site… Here’s a bunch of clips of what the racers were saying: go here.

Over the seasons, he covered virtually every aspect of the sport, from the pro tours to junior racing, freestyle and World Cup alpine competition.
