On Tuesday, Jan. 7, Tessa Worley announced that she underwent yet another knee operation that will take her off the World Cup circuit for the remainder of the season. For the entirety of the 2019-20 season, the giant slalom specialist has been struggling to return from a previous knee surgery she received in the spring after the 2018-19 season wrapped.

Prior to her success in the Soelden season opener, Worley had been struggling with pain throughout her pre-season training. Although she was capable of finishing a course, she was not skiing at the speeds she knows she is capable of as a once GS crystal globe champion. A strong podium performance, therefore, came as a surprise.

Although Worley will not be able to compete, in her Instagram post she did say she was scheduled to start training again before the end of the season.

“It was an intervention that was not scheduled, but I am happy and relieved to be able to see the future serenely now and with fun on the skis soon,” she wrote in French in her post. “I will keep you posted on my return to training. It’s planned before the end of winter.”
