Swiss, Canadians name new snowsports leadership

Stéphane Cattin has been named as Rudi Huber’s replacement to strengthen the management of Swiss-Ski. The 47-year-old Swiss national will assume tactical and strategic management responsibilities as alpine director on or before Dec. 1, 2015.

Cattin brings 20 years of industry experience to the Swiss team. He previously worked for 10 years as both a men’s and women’s coach at Swiss-Ski, where his greatest achievement was coaching giant slalom champion Michael von Gruenigen. He has since worked in various capacities at the brands Fischer and Stoeckli, including his most recent work as Sales Director Switzerland for Fischer Sports.

“[Stéphane’s] experience, both as a coach and in the ski industry, his management skills and his network in business and ski racing are extremely valuable for Swiss-Ski,” said Swiss-Ski CEO Markus Wolf.

“I’m looking forward to, after exactly 11 years, returning to my roots – the racing scene. For me it’s the perfect opportunity to use the experience that I have gained in the private sector back in my original profession,” said Cattin.

Members of the Canadian Snowsports Association (CSA) held their annual general meeting and elected the following to the Board of Directors:

• Mark Rubinstein – Alpine Canada Alpin (ACA)
• Marc-Andre Moreau – Canadian Freestyle Ski Association (CFSA)
• Guy Poupart – Canadian Snowboard Federation (CSF)
• John Heilig – Nordic Combined Ski Canada/Ski Jumping Canada (NCC/SJC)
• Jamie Coatsworth – Cross-Country Ski de Fond Canada (CCC)
• Chris Robinson – Director At-Large
• Steve Podborski – Director At-Large

Following the annual general meeting, members of the board held their first meeting and elected Chris Robinson and Steve Podborski as chair and vice-chair, respectively. The Chairman of the CSA Board also functions as the CSA President with respect to matters involving FIS. The meeting also reconfirmed Dave Pym as managing director and chief executive officer of the CSA, responsible for the day-to-day management of the CSA.
