Farwest Freestyle is one of seven regional feed organizations for the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team. During the past two Winter Olympics, two of the four medals won by the U.S. were won by Far West division skiers Johnny Mosley and Shannon Bahrke. Seven current members of the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team hail from the Far West region.

‘Squaw Valley Academy is proud to be the presenting sponsor for the Far West Freestyle Series’ explains spokesperson Peter Berridge. ‘SVA and the Far West region both have a long history of producing world-class skiers. With this sponsorship, SVA is helping the tradition continue.’

Since it’s inception in 1978, Squaw Valley Academy has ushered scores of winter athletes through its rigorous college preparatory program. Skiers like CR Johnson, the Mosley brothers and two-time Olympian Edith Thys all hit the books at SVA whilst hitting the slopes a mile up the road at Squaw Valley USA.

Despite this long line of celebrated skiers, college preparation comes first and foremost for students at SVA. Years ago, the school made a decision to focus on teaching faculty and leave coaching up to the experts the Squaw Valley Ski Team. A proven program for decades, the Squaw Valley Ski Team has produced such notables as Daron Rahlves, Julia Mancuso, Marco Sullivan, and Tamara McKinney.

Forgoing coaching responsibilities to focus on academics is indicative of SVA’s unique design, one which hinges on individualized attention and flexible schedules. Both benefits are the product of small class sizes and an experienced faculty whom shares in the appreciation and ambitions associated with sports and outdoor activities.
