Renate Goetschl took the second Sestriere training run Thursday. The Austrian veteran just edged American Julia Mancuso down the Kandahar Banchetta course, winning by 0.04 of a second and becoming one of the favorites to win the World Cup race set for Saturday. Fraenzi Aufdenblatten, the winner of Wednesday's trainer, was third, 0.17 out.
|    Canadians Britt Janyk and Emily Brydon finished two hundredths apart in sixth and seventh place. Lindsey Vonn, the U.S. downhill standings leader, placed 15th with teammate Stacey Cook in 17th. Leanne Smith set in 31st. Kelly VanderBeek was 24th on the day.
Mancuso, who recorded four victories last season, is also winless this campaign.
''I feel like I'm in form,'' Mancuso said. ''This downhill is much more competitive than the Olympic downhill in San Sicario. I really like the snow and the slope.''

Goetschl won the race here in 2004 and has 46 career World Cup victories to be third on the all-time list behind Annemarie Moser-Proell of Austria (62) and Switzerland's Vreni Schneider (55).
Goetschl is still seeking her first win this season.

Overall World Cup leader Nicole Hosp and Austrian teammate Marlies Schild skipped the run.
A third training run is scheduled for Friday, followed by the downhill race Saturday and a super G on Sunday.
