Schlopy to undergo knee surgery on December 2{mosimage}Erik Schlopy, one of the nation’s top giant slalom skiers, will undergo surgery on Tuesday in Park City.

Exactly one week after his injury, Schlopy appeared at the women’s slalom World Cup in Park City. He walked without crutches or any dramatic limp. Out of uniform, he was nevertheless mobbed by fans and well-wishers. “I can’t really go five minutes without stopping to talk,” said Schlopy.

Dr. Vernon Cooley will repair the anterior cruciate ligament in Schlopy’s right leg — which was ruptured completely in a fall at the America’s Opening World Cup on November 22.

“I’ve heard great things about him,” said Schlopy, explaining why he’d chosen Cooley. Schlopy had considered several of the U.S. Ski Team’s official physicians.
