Park City president and GM named senior VP for parent company{mosimage}Powdr Corporation, the Park City-based parent corporation of ski and snowboard resorts throughout the western U.S., has named Vernon A. Greco senior vice president and chief operating officer.

As COO, Greco will report to John D. Cumming, who is chairman and president/CEO. Cumming assumed the role of chairman in February 2003 when industry icon Nick Badami stepped down. The board of directors affirmed the new corporate structure in a special meeting Monday.

“This change is intended to accomplish three things,” said Cumming. ‘First and foremost it is our intention to capitalize on the success we have had the past five years, which in many ways is most notable at Park City Mountain Resort. In addition, we intend to continue to evolve and refine the practices which differentiate our resorts from the rest of the industry. Finally, we need to develop a leadership and management structure that will allow us to grow.”

Cumming has been at the helm of Powdr since 1994, after acquiring Alpine Meadows in California and Park City Mountain Resort from Badami’s previous company. Since that time Boreal Ridge and Soda Springs in California, Mt. Bachelor in Oregon and Lee Canyon outside Las Vegas have been acquired by the company. Powdr also operates Gorgoza Tubing Park located between Salt Lake City and Park City, which is owned by a related company.

Greco has been the president and general manager of Park City ski resort since 1998 and guided the company through the Olympics as well as a successful re-positioning to capture the youth markets with nationally acclaimed terrain parks and the Olympic superpipe. Before joining Powdr, Greco was president and CEO of Durango Mountain Resort, formerly known as Purgatory, and spent 18 years at Steamboat Springs, where he was president and CEO.
