Reigning World Cup overall champion Nicole Hosp holds better than a half-second lead after the first run of Saturday’s World Cup giant slalom at Canada’s Panorama resort.
    Hosp, who also captured the GS globe last season, clocked a time of 1 minute, 22.22 seconds on the 53-gate course. A trio of Italians follow Hosp, with Nicole Gius second, 0.59 seconds back at 1:22.81. Manuela Moelgg sits third. 0.71 behind, and Denise Karbon, winner of the season-opening GS at Sölden in October who started No. 1 in Saturday’s race, sits fourth, 1.05 seconds back.
    Resi Stiegler leads U.S. racers after the first run in 16th place, more than 2 seconds behind Hosp.

Jessica Kelley sits 24th and Libby Ludlow is tied for 25th position. Megan McJames and Stacey Cook each failed to finish in the top 30 to earn a second run.
    The second run is scheduled for 1 p.m. local time. Panorama last hosted a World Cup race 15 years ago.
