Rising World Cup star Melanie Meillard of Switzerland suffered a season-ending injury to her left knee following a fall in giant slalom training on Thursday, Feb. 8, in PyeongChang. She was preparing to compete in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games at the time of the injury.

Meillard sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in her left knee and will have to end her competition season immediately. She is currently ranked sixth in the World Cup slalom standings and secured her career-first podium finish at the World Cup city event in Oslo in January.

She will return home to Switzerland on Friday, Feb. 9, to determine further medical treatment of the injury.
