Norway’s Nina Loeseth, who finished 12th in yesterday’s World Cup giant slalom at Beaver Creek, drove down the road to grab a win in the opening race of the women’s Loveland NorAm tech series. Loeseth produced a blazing second run, which she won by over half a second, to secure the victory over runner-up Erin Mielzynski of Canada. Mielzynski, who was regarded primarily as a slalom specialist until her 16th place finish in Beaver Creek yesterday, won the first run of today’s NorAm and was joined on the podium by teammate Marie-Pier Prefontaine (who placed 9th in yesterday’s World Cup) in third.

The first American was independent skier Megan McJames, who sat second after the first run and ultimately finished fourth. The University of Colorado’s Brooke Wales was the top NCAA skier in seventh. In addition to the Norwegian and Canadian teams, the race also included World Cup skiers from Austria, Switzerland, and Germany.
