On the final jump of the Europa Cup downhill training run in Zauchensee, Austria, Elisabeth Kappaurer crashed and broke four metacarpal bones in her left hand. Austrian team doctor Christian Hoser operated on Kappaurer’s hand on Tuesday evening.

“The four metacarpal bones were flattened,” Hoser explained. “…In two to three weeks, we will start with the first tests that will show us when Elisabeth can start ski training again.”

Kappaurer, who made her World Cup debut in 2015, has focused on giant slalom this season. A consistent top-15 finisher, her best result came in Lienz, Austria, where she was 12th. Kappaurer is currently ranked 15th in the World Cup GS standings, the second-best Austrian behind Stephanie Brunner.
