As the other European nations held their respective championships, Italian skiers competed for their national titles in Santa Caterina Valfurva, Italy, last week.

Johanna Schnarf picked up the women’s Italian downhill title ahead of Olympic gold medalist Sofia Goggia in second and Nicol Delago in third. On the men’s side, Switzerland’s Ralph Weber took the victory with Christof Innerhofer finishing in second as the fastest Italian. Matteo Marsaglia rounded out the podium in third.

Super-G saw Delago improve on her downhill performance, taking the women’s super-G title ahead of Schnarf in second and Goggia in third. Weber once again stole the super-G win for the Swiss as Marsaglia finished as the fastest Italian in second with Switzerland’s Stefan Rogentin in third.

The men’s and women’s giant slalom races closed out the Italian championships as the slalom titles were decided last December in Bormio. On the women’s side, Olympic bronze medalist Federica Brignone dominated the field by almost three seconds to take the women’s title with Valentina Cillara Rossi and Anna Hofer finishing in second and third, respectfully. The men’s race saw Giulio Giovanni Bosca take the title ahead of Alex Zingerle in second and Michelangelo Tentori in third.

In the December slalom races, Insam Vivien, a 21-year-old Italian rising star, and Roccardo Tonetti, a World Cup giant slalom specialist, took the women’s and men’s titles, respectively.
