Norwegian technical star Nina Haver-Leoeseth will unfortunately miss the season opening World Cup race in Soelden, Austria, at the end of the month due to an aggravated tendon in her knee.

“Unfortunately, I will not be at the start in Soelden,” she said in an Instagram post on Monday. “I have an overloaded (directly translated from Norwegian) tendon in my knee which will need some rest and rehab at the gym.”

The Norwegian went on to say that she plans to return in time for the opening slalom race in Levi, Finland, on November 17. Haver-Loeseth told Norwegian news outlet NRK that she left a training camp in Saas-Fee, Switzerland, after only two days on snow because of pain in her knee.

“Soelden always comes a little quick,” she shared. “But the timing is a bit unfortunate. Maybe there were a couple of choices I took that were not so smart. There were enough workouts that I might have left when I started to know it. It’s always hard to judge when to calm down and when you’re going to drive on.”

Haver-Loeseth finished the 2018 season ranked sixth in the women’s World Cup slalom standings. The Norwegian managed a sixth-place finish in the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic slalom and was victorious in the 2018 Stockholm city event in January. She has one additional World Cup victory and six other podiums to her name.
