Mardi Haskell and Michael Boardman gave the Franconia Ski Club two podium finishers Friday as the 2007 Whistler Cup for J3 and J4 racers kicked off at Canada’s Whistler-Blackcomb Resort.

    Haskell, a J4, finished picked up the silver medal in the girls “kombi” one-run slalom event behind gold medalist Nina Znidar of Slovenia. Znidar clocked a time of 49.31 seconds, while Haskell crossed the line in 49.99. Poland’s Daniel Maryna Gasienica took bronze in 50.14. The United States placed four more racers in the top 12: Hana Saydek (Okemo Mountain) was fifth, Paula Moltzan (Buck Hill) sixth, Lena Andrews (Sugar Bowl Academy) seventh and Nicole Anderson (Team Summit) 12th. Amanda Stelling (Hailey Ski Team) finished tied for 37th place.
    Boardman, a J4, took bronze in the boys kombi with a time of 50.97 seconds. Italy’s Michele Gualazzi took gold in 49.53 and Finland’s Oskari Vahapassi earned silver in 50.71. Other U.S. finishers were Bobby Moyer (Aspen Valley Ski Club) in 14th, Ty Sprock (Diamond Peak Ski Team) 18th, Ryan Barney (Loveland Racing Club) 23rd and Max Hall (Squaw Valley Ski Team) 58th.
    Mikaela Bruce of the Mount Mansfield Ski Club led the U.S. girls in a J3 super G on Friday, finishing sixth in the race won by Austria’s Mirjam Puchner. Tracie Kroneberger (Winter Park) finished 13th, Linsey Wright (Mount Snow Academy) 17th, Joanna Coffey (Aspen Valley Ski Club) 29th, Nicole Larson (Buck Hill) 36th and Katie Fitzpatrick (Sugar Bowl Academy) 54th.
    The boys J3 super G results were still unofficial as of Saturday afternoon, but those showed Canadian boys sweeping the top four spots led by Richard Long. Cooper Cartmill led the U.S. in eighth place, with Taylor Shiffrin (Burke Mountain) ninth.
    The J3s were scheduled to race slalom and the J4s the giant slalom on Saturday.
