Over the weekend, reigning World Cup downhill champion Peter Fill of Italy and French rival Adrien Theaux took the competition to a decidedly different arena for an Audi Sport TT Cup event in Zandvoort, Netherlands.

Racing took place July 15-17 in a unique format where 15 professional drivers along with five “guest drivers” (comprising of athletes, celebrities, and journalists) were able to compete on the same racetrack over the weekend.  Fill and Theaux aren’t the first alpine athletes to take part in the series as Austria’s Marcel Hirscher, Germany’s Felix Neureuther, and Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal all took part in a race weekend last year.

“I love motorsports,” Theaux said in a promotional video for the event. “It’s a challenge, but we are competitors so we want to fight together and to win.”

The series, seen as a feeder circuit for younger racers hoping to make their way into larger motorsports leagues, consists of seven races across Europe spanning from May to October. The 20-car field not only contained the two ski stars, but also had Dutch Prince Bernard van Oranje on the starting grid for a bit of royal flair.

“It’s a big gift from Audi to me and I’m really happy to be here and make this new experience,” Fill said before the races. “I think the most important thing is to have fun and to beat Adrien, for sure!”

Race one was won by Denmark’s Nicklas Nielsen with Theaux and Fill finishing just under a minute behind in 16th and 17th, respectively. Race two was taken by South Africa’s Sheldon van der Linde with the skiers swapping places as Fill finished in 18th and Theaux in 19th.
