Recently-retired German ski racer Felix Neureuther will be taking on a different kind of challenge this winter as he joins German television as an expert analyst for their coverage of World Cup ski racing.

The 35-year-old Neureuther chose to hang up his race skis at last season’s World Cup Finals in Soldeu, Andorra, after a career that saw him win 13 World Cup races and medals in three consecutive World Championships in 2013, 2015, and 2017. The son of legendary German ski racers Christian Neureuther and Rosi Mittermaier, Neureuther became a father before the start of the 2018 season and missed his fourth Olympic appearance that winter due to a torn ACL suffered in training prior to the World Cup races in Beaver Creek, Colorado.

“I don’t want to continue (broadcasting) as it is being done now. I want to change something,” he told Bavarian Radio of his plans for his new career. “I want to do this in my own way. I do not want to look so big as an expert, but want to bring the spectator closer to the sport. To show new perspectives and to awaken emotions.”

A fan-favorite as an athlete, Neureuther looks to be a natural fit for the broadcasting booth on the World Cup. Neureuther has appeared as a guest commentator on radio and television broadcasts in the past and has said he has hopes that his future long-term career will be in journalism.
