France’s Alexis Pinturault won his first slalom race of the season on home soil in Val d’Isere, France by a huge margin, 1.44 seconds ahead of Sweden’s Andre Myhrer.

Pinturault set the time to beat first run, hanging on to the leader seat for the entirety of the run having pushed out of the starting gate first. The best challenge for the win the first half of the day came from an unexpected contender, USA’s Luke Winters, who charged from the back of the pack in bib 40 to make a play for the podium, 0.59 seconds behind Pinturault.

Winters was unable to hang on to his time in the second run. A few costly mistakes tossed him off the podium and back into 19th, which is still the best World Cup finish of the 22-year-olds career.

Italy’s Stefano Gross finished out the podium in third, having squeezed ahead of Henrik Kristoffersen by 0.01 seconds to earn his first podium since 2017.
