Will Brandenburg led men’s downhill training Tuesday on the Bowl/Gelenda Trail, site of the Nature Valley 2007 U.S. Alpine Championships.
ALYESKA RESORT, Alaska — Will Brandenburg led men’s downhill training Tuesday on the Bowl/Gelenda Trail, site of the Nature Valley 2007 U.S. Alpine Championships.
    Brandenburg completed the course in 1 minute, 46.52 seconds, with Steven Nyman second, .42 back, and Christopher Beckmann third, .58  back.
    T.J. Lanning was fourth, Justin Johnson fifth and Marco Sullivan sixth. Bode Miller and Ted Ligety did not start training runs.
    On the women’s side, Libby Ludlow set the pace with a time of 1:50.82, well ahead of runner-up Kaylin Richardson (1:52.75) and third-place finisher Stacey Cook (1:52.86). Kirsten Cooper was fourth, Caitlin Ciccone fifth and Erika Ghent sixth. U.S. Ski Teamers Julia Mancuso, Kirsten Clark and Resi Stiegler did not start. Clark said Monday that she will not race this week and has already officially announced her retirement from the World Cup circuit.
     A second downhill training is set for Wednesday, with two FIS downhills on Thursday and the national championship downhills on Friday.
