Soelden men’s opener canceled due to wind
A forecast of high winds of between 90-120km/h today on the Rettenbach Glacier in Soelden, Austria, forced the FIS and the organizing committee to make the difficult decision to cancel the opening men’s World Cup of the season.
“Due to the wind conditions and in the interest of safety for teams, officials, and public on the Rettenbach Glacier the jury together with the OC have decided to cancel today’s Men’s Audi FIS Ski World Cup GS,” said an official communication from the FIS.
Unfortunately, the will be no make-up race as the traditional glacier races are not rescheduled. The men’s World Cup opener will now be the slalom in Levi, Finland, on Nov. 12, with the first GS of the season taking place in Beaver Creek, Colo. on Dec. 3.
