Two Austrian athletes have suffered knee injuries during early season training camps in the Southern Hemisphere. Rosina Schneeberger had to start her trip home from Argentina early after she fell during giant slalom training in Ushuaia, Argentina, tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee. Jürgen Kriechbaum, the athletic director of the women’s team, immediately organized the 23-year-old athlete’s return to Europe in order for a more extensive evaluation to take place. On Aug. 31, team doctor Christian Fink was able to examine the A-Team athlete in the private clinic of Hochrum and make the diagnosis.

Daniel Meier also had some bad luck. The 24-year-old Austrian suffered a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee due to a fall in the final giant slalom at Coronet Peak, New Zealand. Team doctor Erich Altenburger, who is in New Zealand, diagnosed him after an initial examination. The B-Team athlete, who had a brilliant start to the 2017-18 season with a victory and a third place in the Australia New Zealand Cup (ANC) races at Thredbo, Australia, will be returning home in the coming days.
