French World Cup skier David Poisson has died following a crash during downhill training at Nakiska in Canada. He was 35 years old.

Devastated by this news, Michel Vion, President of the French Ski Federation, Fabien Saguez, National Technical Director, and all of the sports and administrative staff of the Federation, join the pain of his loved ones during this particularly difficult time.

Poisson won the bronze medal in the downhill at the World Championships in 2013. He also earned a third-place result in the Santa Caterina World Cup downhill in 2015.

The Federation will provide additional information as soon as possible.

Update as of 9:30 pm ET: Canadian news outlet, CTV, reports that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) say the accident happened around 9:00 a.m. local time on Monday morning and “it appears Poisson hit a safety net and then a tree but they continue to investigate the crash.”
