December 14th – Super-G

The women of the World Cup headed over to St. Moritz, Switzerland to kick off the next block of racing on European soil. Day one saw an exciting super-G race that ended with Italy’s Sofia Goggia on the top of the podium, keeping her cool despite losing a ski pole mid-way through the course. Her teammate, Federica Brignone pushed into second one hundredth ahead of last year’s St. Moritz super-G winner, USA’s Mikaela Shiffrin. Photos: GEPA pictures.

Alice Merryweather (USA) moved from 44th to 20th and secured points for the 4th race of the season.

Federica Brigone (ITA) and Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) rounded out the podium in second and third respectively.

“I just tried to push hard and ski fast for myself and no one else. I was really happy.”

December 15th – Parallel Slalom

Slovakia’s Petra Vlhova had come into the weekend thinking she would not race after a tibia injury she suffered prior to Soelden had continued to get worse throughout the course of the early season. Alas, a last minute decision led to a first-place podium finish in the parallel slalom, alongside Sweden’s Anna-Swenn Larsson and Austria’s Franziska Gritsch. Photos: GEPA Pictures.

Franziska Gritsch (AUT) bounced back from an early-round crash to win the small final and finish third.

Laurence St.Germain (CAN) had a career-best 5th place finish on Sunday

Petra Vlhova (SVK) and Anna Swenn-Larsson (SWE) went head to head in the large final.

“I am so, so happy after all day so today was a perfect day for…It was a little bit of a tough day but in the end, all good.”
