For the second day in a row, the women’s downhill in Val d’Isere, France has been cancelled. After Saturday’s race was called due to snow and warming temperatures, the forecast did not look much better for a race to get off on Sunday but organizers were hopeful that luck would be on their side.

Unfortunately for the women’s Tour, the weather gods just weren’t in their favor this weekend as snow continued through Saturday night into Sunday. After the race jury made their way up to the start amid avalanche control on the main mountain, the decision was made shortly before 8:00 am CET to cancel the race.

“Due to strong wind on the top and heavy snowfall, and the weather forecast for the day, the jury together with the organizing committee have decided to cancel today’s downhill,” FIS said in an official statement to the media.

Sunday’s cancellation means no more women’s racing before the holiday break. No announcement has been made as of publication on when or if the Val d’Isere races will be made up later in the season.

The next women’s races will be on December 28-29 with slalom and giant slalom racing in Lienz, Austria.
