The
first public indication Bode Miller might put in a full season on the
World Cup this season came on his Universal Sports “diary” Wednesday
Sept. 9. He said he was undergoing eye LASIK surgery today and was
looking forward to the possibility of growing wine grapes on his New
Hampshire farm.

More telling, however, was the statement: “I am considering all my
options for this coming season. … Bringing along the next group of U.S.
racers and working and hanging with the guys on the U.S. team is
something I’m interested in.”

“Yes I have (heard from Bode),” said head U.S. men’s coach Sasha Rearick.

Though he did not want to reveal too much, Rearick said Miller would be welcome.

“Bode is a great racer,” he said. “We will leave the door open.”

No final decision has been made by either party, but the line of
communication has been reopened and both sides appear to be open at
least to discuss the possibility.

Miller said in his blog his travel schedule has been intense, but that
he has “been training some and feel pretty good right now.”

While Miller has competed on the international racing stage in every
season since 1998, he was not an official member of the U.S. Ski Team
for the last two seasons, instead electing to fund, organize and run
his own independent team. He split from the team after the 2006 season
when he had a rash of “bad press” and results that paled when compared
to his earlier seasons.

Miller holds the U.S. record for most World Cup wins (31). He won the
World Cup overall title in 2005 and 2008, collected two silver medals
at the 2002 Olympics and owns four World Championship gold medals and
one silver. His last Cup win came in March of 2008.
