FIS officials give Levi the green lightThe International Ski Federation (FIS) confirmed today that snow conditions in Levi, Finland are satisfactory for World Cup alpine ski races scheduled to begin Nov. 14. Men’s and women’s slalom races will be held on the Levi Black slope, where officials say conditions are looking good.

“The situation with the snow is better than ever before in this time of year. We have succeeded in snowing and shaping the Levi Black very well,” said Tapio Kokko the chief of race for the Levi World Cup. “There is also enough snow in the safety areas. Hans Pieren, the Race Director of the International Ski Federation was very satisfied with the conditions on the race slope.”

The hill will now be injected with two million liters of water to give it a hard, durable surface to last the duration of the races.

“The weather might be a little bit challenging in the next few days, but I believe that we will finish injecting Wednesday evening,” said Kokko. “We will also work during the nighttime if it’s necessary.”

Crews will begin work on the finish area and installation of safety fencing next Monday. The construction of tents, stages and auditoriums that will be used at the event are on schedule.
