According to Sportsonesource.com, Amer Sports, owner of ski makers Atomic and Salomon, has reported that their 2009 first quarter net sales were down 2% to $465.4 million. The company’s winter sports equipment accounted for 10% of their overall sales and match last year’s levels.

Amer Sport’s fitness division’s sales are down 25%. Sales in the Americas made up 46% of the company’s worldwide sales, which is down 5% from last year. Their first quarter winter and outdoor sales were down 8% in local currencies in the Americans. The current economic climate is being cited as the driving factor of the slumping numbers. Not only are winter athletes watching their spending, they also have fewer outlets at which to buy products, as a significant number of specialty dealers have closed their doors.
