Gear Guide: HEAD strengthens US Racing Department

HEAD, the fastest growing ski brand in the U.S. for the past four years, brought on Cameron Smith as western race and promotions associate. Starting May 1 in this newly-created position, Smith will manage HEAD’s racing program for the western U.S. Along with Matt Larson, HEAD’s eastern race and promotions associate, Smith will work closely with HEAD’s Austrian race department to coordinate excellent service for HEAD’s retailers, coaches, and athletes.

“We are thrilled to welcome Cameron to the team. As a member of the 2013 and 2015 NCAA National Championship ski teams, and most recently as the assistant alpine coach at the University of Colorado, ski racing is at his core,” said Jon Rucker, HEAD USA’s senior vice president of winter sports. “HEAD is 100 percent dedicated to the success of the entire ski racing community. With Cameron in the west, Matt in the east, and our team of sales reps across the nation, our support for athletes, coaches, and retailers is second to none.”

Smith grew up in Boulder, Colo., racing on the slopes of Eldora Mountain. He then attended Burke Mountain Academy before skiing for the University of Colorado. This two-time national championship team member was also on the National All-Academic Ski Team.

Having recently been an athlete and a coach, Cameron knows first-hand the support athletes need to be successful.

“HEAD is known for great achievements in racing and its rapid growth in retail,” said Smith. “To leave coaching was a big decision, but joining a brand like HEAD is a dream. I look forward to working with athletes, retailers, and coaches alike. It’s exciting to be part of a team intent on being the best.”

Smith will be based in the HEAD/Tyrolia U.S. Winter Sports headquarters in Boulder, Colo.
