Frida Hansdotter to Retire at End of Season
Wednesday morning, Sweden’s Frida Hansdotter took to Instagram to announce her retirement after World Cup Finals in Soldeu, Andorra next week.
“The last 15 years I traveled the world with skiing, pushing limits, harder than I ever thought was possible, achieving great things, met amazing people on the way. I love skiing and it will always be a big part of my life. But it’s time for me to say goodbye to the World Cup circuit and start a new chapter in my life,” she wrote.
Hansdotter has been one of few women on the slalom circuit capable of keeping up, even beating, Mikaela Shiffrin within the past few years.
She made her debut on the World Cup circuit at Soelden 2004. Since, the 33-year-old has earned 35 podiums, four World Cup wins, four World Championship medals, and an Olympic gold medal in her specialty, the slalom. Hansdotter took home the slalom crystal globe in 2016 and has stood on the podium at World Cup finals in the battle for the overall title three other times in her 15-year career.
Her last races take place in Spindleruv Mlyn over the weekend, and into World Cup Finals in Soldeu, officially concluding on March 16th.
