SMS High Performance Summer Adventure Camps
Why You Should Attend This Camp:
Stratton Mountain School’s 2019 High-Performance Adventure Camp will provide a fun week of conditioning, education, field games, and adventures in the scenic mountains of Southern Vermont. Mornings will be reserved for circuit training and education at Stratton Mountain School’s US Ski and Snowboard High-Performance Center. This will help athletes develop full-body strength, agility, and endurance. During this time campers will participate in physical testing, the results of which will be utilized to develop an individualized program for each athlete to follow throughout the remainder of the summer and fall. Afternoons will be dedicated to adventures through Stratton’s beautiful landscape.
What Makes this Camp Stand Out Above The Rest?
Stratton Mountain School brings a proven philosophy and record to our summer camps, with 46 Olympic athletes, a total of 75 Olympic placements, 6 Olympic medals, and 117 National Team Placements since 1972. The SMS Alpine High-Performance Adventure Camp utilizes the school’s status as a nationally recognized training venue by U.S. Ski and Snowboard and an official U.S. Ski and Snowboard Development Site, alongside nearby Stratton Mountain Resort. SMS’s athletic facilities (described in detail at www.gosms.org/athletics/athletic-facilities) include The Burtscher Fieldhouse and Greg Needell Gymnasium, which houses the state-of-the-art Greg Needell Strength & Conditioning Room, a Sports Science Lab, an indoor basketball/volleyball court, a turf field, and a golf simulator. The Air Awareness Center—featuring trampolines, a foam pit, and a skate park—provides further training opportunities as does SMS’s Luckenbill Field. The High-Performance Adventure Camp is led by SMS High-Performance Director Jay Ogle, a 2010 alumnus of the SMS Alpine program. Jay works directly with athletes as the head strength and conditioning coach while also coordinating with US Ski and Snowboard to bring the best possible training, testing, and evaluation procedures to our school and programs.
