BREAKING: Odermatt Victorious in Beaver Creek Super-G
22-year-old Swiss phenom Marco Odermatt captured his first career World Cup win on Friday in Beaver Creek, Colorado, taking the super-G with a time 1:10.90 seconds. Odermatt was the first racer to finish the course with bib two and managed to hang on through the next 69 athletes.
Odermatt bested Norwegian star Aleksander Aamodt Kilde by 0.10 seconds for the 2016 super-G globe winner’s first podium of the season. Austria’s Matthias Mayer continued his strong early-season momentum in third place, 0.14 seconds back.
Top American honors went to Squaw Valley’s Travis Ganong in sixth place, 0.69 seconds behind Odermatt. Following Ganong in the top 30 was Ryan Cochran-Siegle in 18th, Steven Nyman in 24th, and Ted Ligety in 28th.
James Crawford was the lone Canadian point scorer in 21st place.
