Academic Approach: Gould offers a full 9- PG program with a 7th and 8th-grade winter term from November through March available for alpine, freestyle, snowboarding, and nordic student-athletes. At Gould, we understand that each student is different. Our small size, dedicated faculty, and approach to teaching and learning allows us to meet students where they are along their own continuum of academic and social development. We offer a challenging core curriculum that prepares students for college and beyond. Our Blended Learning Program allows students and teachers to customize the academic experience in ways that improve learning and provide the flexibility to explore opportunities outside of the classroom. Our new Marlon Family IDEAS Center provides the physical and digital tools required for success in a world that is increasingly reliant on ideas, analysis, and innovation. Our focus on experiential learning pushes the boundaries of the traditional classroom. From week/weekend service and outdoor leadership trips to travel abroad adventures and our beloved Four Point program, opportunities like these help shape our students into well traveled, responsible citizens. We offer a unique breadth of programming for a school of 250, and we challenge our students to try new pursuits where they often discover their passions. We believe that where there is risk there is reward, and we provide layers of support to help guide our students down their respective paths. One student at a time, we help each become the best version of his or herself.
Athletic Approach: Gould has a longstanding tradition and culture of celebrating winter thanks to our location in the Western Mountains of Maine, just six miles from our partner and second campus Sunday River Resort. What distinguishes Gould athletics from traditional boarding schools or ski academies, is its On Snow Programs. Our distinctive partnership with Sunday River makes possible unparalleled athletic and academic opportunities. The multi-layered curriculum includes a Competition Program for Alpine, Freestyle, and Snowboard; Prep Alpine, Prep Snowboarding, and Prep Nordic teams; and certification and instruction programs. Or students may learn to ski and snowboard for the very first time. Former United States Ski Team athlete and Division I Coach, Mr. Kurt Simard, oversees the On-Snow Program. We also offer a full slate of three-season athletics. Soccer, Cross-country, Field Hockey, Golf, Mountain Biking, Basketball, Equestrian, Baseball, Softball, Lacrosse, Road Cycling, Skateboarding, Tennis, and Outing Clubs.
