Academics and Overview: Loveland Ski Club’s Alpine Race Academy offers the closest highway accessed training to the Denver Metropolitan area, as well as convenient access from Summit County.  A van service is offered from Denver to all training sessions.  Athletes can take advantage of 365 days per year of individualized attention, driven by our 4:1 coach to athlete ratio and other dedicated staff that allow the coaches to focus on what they do best: coaching.

World-class athletes such as Mikaela Shiffrin repeatedly choose Loveland for their on-snow training and Academy athletes are frequently rubbing elbows with top athletes in the sport. The April, May, June, October, and November on-snow camps are held at Loveland and utilize five different world-class training venues. Athletes have access to 140 days on snow per year, 60 of which are before the first December races. An Academy athlete’s skis are tuned at a national team level on a daily basis by the Academy ski serviceman who performs all ski tuning including new ski preparation, regular maintenance, and race tuning.

Academy athletes have a dedicated locker room in the LSC clubhouse. The Academy utilizes the extensive use of video technology including follow-cam, instant on-hill video feedback via iPad, and video sharing with parents and athletes via Dropbox. Timed training runs are frequent, utilizing multiple splits and individual run printouts.

The combination of high-quality coaching, camps, hill-space, strength and conditioning, and tuning is the driving force behind the Alpine Race Academy. The summer portion of the Academy program includes several leadership and team building excursions in the spirit of an outdoor leadership school. All these components lead to the realization of individual potential and performance, at a fraction of the cost of comparable programs, by offering a private coaching environment in a team setting.

Although there is not an integrated academic component, our athletes work in close conjunction with their schools, and area school districts are familiar with the program.  This allows freedom of choice for our athletes to choose the best academic option for them, whether it be public, private, online, or homeschooling.

Quotes from Academy parents:

"I don’t know where to start relative to the program except to say that it has, and continues to, exceed our every expectation in every way."

“Loveland ARA, in our perspective, is not just about the ski racing season for our son.  It's about this broader vision of development and balance for him, as an athlete and a person.   While we were drawn to ski racing because of his love of the sport, it is more about the character building aspect that keeps us committing the time and resources towards it.  Loveland has taken this character building element and blown it up to a year round experience.”

“This is the greatest program I have ever seen in my years in the ski world. LSC offers a world-class training venue with a private run and no lift lines. The coaches are very professional and really support the kids in developing and improving their skills. We feel we are part of a big family and our children have a blast.”

Training Facilities: Five different world-class training venues at Loveland Ski Area, spread between the upper and lower ski areas, offering training on all snow conditions.  Our unparalleled cooperation with the Loveland Ski Area allows private training venues for Academy athletes from October through June.  Summer conditioning happens at several gyms in the area, as well as utilizing the amazing Colorado outdoors.
