Zoricic family says course design contributed to Nik's death

According to a report by James Christie in the Toronto Globe and Mail, the family of Nik Zoricic will challenge officials to make the sport of Ski-Cross safer.

Zoricic’s death after a crash in a World Cup event at Grindelwald, Switzerland in March was said by Canadian officials to have been a “freak accident.” Nik’s father, veteran ski coach Predrag (Bebe) Zoricic says he will make safety recommendations for the sport that could have saved his son’s life.

Bebe Zoricic said the landing area of the course “was the wrong design. … it was an accident waiting to happen. Everything was in the wrong place.”

Nik Zoricic came off a final jump just above the finish line of the Grindelwald event and flew to skier’s right off the course landing at the base of a safety net. He suffered head injuries and was reported dead upon arrival at hospital.

The FIS, Swiss Police and the Oslo Sports Trauma Institute are all preparing reports on the accident.

The Zoricic family suggestions are to be announced at a press conference Wednesday April 25.
