Winter arrives early to Canadian Rockies
Over the last 24 hours, more than eight inches of snow has blanketed the Banff/Lake Louise area of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, and more is on the way. Skiers and ski racing fans are taking it as a good sign following the disappointing snow pack this year in South America, where many of the world’s top ski racers gather for early season training.
Lake Louise is the home of the Bombarier Winter Start World Cup event (Nov. 24- Dec. 5) that welcomes the beginning of both the men’s and women’s World Cup speed season.
The area’s three ski resorts are all scheduled to open by mid-November with Mt. Norquay kicking off its season on Halloween weekend, the Lake Louise Ski Area has slated Nov. 5 as its opening day and Sunshine Village will welcome guests Nov. 11. – EW
