INVERMERE, B.C. — Andrew Weibrecht won two NorAm Cup races Wednesday, capturing a super G in the morning and a super combined event later that afternoon as U.S. skiers took five of six possible podium spots in the two races despite daylong snowfall.
"It was a great day for me," said Weibrecht, a Dartmouth College student when not training or competing. "We had a bunch of new snow, so it was pretty soft, and it was snowing lightly all day, so there was bad visibility and that made it a little tough."

INVERMERE, B.C. — Andrew Weibrecht won two NorAm Cup races Wednesday, capturing a super G in the morning and a super combined event later that afternoon as U.S. skiers took five of six possible podium spots in the two races despite daylong snowfall.
In the first race at Panorama Resort, Weibrecht — silver medalist in super G at the 2006 Junior World Championships — captured the super G in 1 minute, 17.07 seconds and defending NorAm super G champion Erik Fisher finished second in 1:17.26. Jeremy Transue, running 23rd, finished fourth in the 90-racer field.
The super combined, blending times from the super G and a one-run slalom, went to Weibrecht in a total time of 2:03.37 as he led a U.S. podium sweep. Adam Cole jumped from 13th in the SG to second in the super combined with a time of 2:04.04. Fisher completed the podium in 2:04.48.
"It was a great day for me," said Weibrecht, a Dartmouth College student when not training or competing. "We had a bunch of new snow, so it was pretty soft, and it was snowing lightly all day, so there was bad visibility and that made it a little tough."
In between runs, he changed into dry, warm gear and got set for the lone run of slalom to complete the super combined.
"I already had a win under my belt, so I was relaxed. It was pretty nice knowing I had a win and could just ski my race," Weibrecht said.
A strong slalom skier early in his career, Weibrecht said training with the U.S. Ski Team for a month in Chile in late summer helped fine tune his speed skills "and now the challenge is to get my tech [slalom/giant slalom] back up to speed. It's really just a matter of getting some time in the gates to get it back."
The men's races at Panorama Resort conclude Thursday with another super G.
