OSLO, Norway — Wind, fog and snow are starting to descend on Oslo, resulting in schedule changes for the weekend's prestigious nordic combined World Cups. Friday, officials decided to hold the first of two competition rounds early for Saturday's planned Gundersen event. And the jump for Sunday's sprint competition will now be held Saturday.
"It's been just bluebird for two days, but now the weather is coming in," said U.S. Ski Team Nordic Director Luke Bodensteiner. "They're trying to get an edge on it by rescheduling the jumps. We'll have to see what happens Saturday, but there's a chance we won't be able to jump."
The first of two scheduled individual Gundersen jumping rounds was held Friday, with the second scheduled Saturday morning. If weather cancels the Saturday jump, officials will likely reduce the competition to one jump and conduct only the sprint competition.
The U.S. Ski Team's Bill Demong jumped 26th in that first round with a jump of 108.0 meters. Demong is presently second in the World Cup standings with the two scheduled events this weekend left to go. Four nordic combined events have been cancelled in the last month due to weather.
